Sparring Partners
2023 // Churchill, Manitoba, Canada
Two Polar bears spar with each other on the shores of Hudson Bay, Manitoba, Canada
As they wait for the ice to form on the bay, bears congregate in larger and larger numbers. This can start to cause problems as they don’t usually tolerate each other well. High temperatures also mean that their thick winter coats are too warm and they can overheat easily. This pair of males would spar and wrestle with each other, then lie down and rest together. With a warming climate, this seems like an apt warning sign of the social tensions that this will bring worldwide to all species.
