A skin diver pictured next to a sperm whale as sargassum seaweed rains down in Dominica.
This enigmatic sperm whale spent hours with us, gently swimming with us, before falling asleep and then waking up to interact with us again. At this moment, a friend swam down to interact with the whale, and as she did, it perfectly showed the comparison in size between human and the whale, i started taking photographs frantically as the yellow sargassum seaweed rained down on the scene. This image won the human connection category in Ocean Photographer of the Year in 2022.
