A coastal wolf gazes off into the distance on a beach in BC, Canada
Coastal wolves are slightly smaller and thinner than their inland cousins the Grey Wolf. This has a lot to do with their much thinner coat and lesser fat reserves as the BC coastline rarely drops below freezing. They are built for covering long distances up and down the coastline searching for carrion and bounty that has been washed up by the tides. This wolf is an incredibly healthy wolf. She had just finished consuming another huge haul of meat and blubber that came from a dead sperm whale that washed up on the beach. The pack supplemented their diets with this huge bounty of calories for many months and ensured a new generation of wolf pups reached adulthood.
